The ICQ main window lists your contacts, as well as users whom you have asked for authorization to add to your Contact List. The Contact List Window
From the Contact List window you can access most of ICQ's important elements:Your preferences, your personal details, the E-Mail checker, the contact assistant which allows you to add users to your Contact List, and the status menu. In addition. the large ICQ button at the top left of the window leads to a menu of various useful Web links. Tips: If you set your E-Mail preferences to periodically check your E-Mail, then the E-Mail checker button on the top of the Contact List, will change its appearance whenever new mail arrives in your mailbox. Whenever a new ICQ message arrives, the ICQ flower at the top right-hand corner of the window will flash an icon according to the message type. Double clicking this icon will open the next unread message, so that you don't need to scroll down the list in order to find the relevant contact. The System menu gives you access to all system messages. These include messages sent to you from the web ("E-Mail Express" and WWPager), notifications from ICQ and SMS messages from numbers not associated with any contact on your list. The system menu is your SMS center for SMS numbers not associated with any contact on your list. See the SMS help page for more information. The System menu also allows you to send E-Mail through ICQ's built in E-Mail client.
The Contact MenuClicking on the arrow button which appears to the right of each contact on your list, opens a menu with various actions applicable to this contact. On most Macintoshes, this menu can also be opened by control-clicking anywhere within the contact's line in the list. Note: the contact menu is also available on the regular menu bar. This menu is context-sensitive. This means that if you bring to the front a window that 'belongs' to a certain contact, such as the history window for that contact, this contact will become the target of the various menu actions. |
